University Medical Center, LSU New Orleans | Moisture Mitigation

Project Size
900,000 Sq Ft

Project Location
New Orleans, Lousiana

General Contractor
Skanska - MAPP

Architect
NBBJ

System Completed
October 2014

Products Supplied
MAPEI Moisture/Alkalinity Control System
Planiseal MVR, Primer T, Ultraplan 1 Plus

At 900,000 sf, the new University Medical Center at LSU represents one of the largest healthcare projects constructed in the southeastern US in the last decade. With construction slated for completion in 2015, the process of developing the approved sub-floor preparation system began in 2011.

Specified Surfaces evaluated the original multi-manufacturer specified system and worked closely with Skanska/MAPP and NBBJ to develop a MAPEI single-source system, designed to cost-effectively deliver optimum compatibility and maximum warranty protection to the owner.

Onsite pre-construction meetings were utilized to evaluate project conditions, installation phasing options and establish a critical path process to help drive completion schedule.  Specified Surfaces provided the AIA submittal package and system specification to Skanska/MAPP for final approval by NBBJ Architects in conjunction with UMC.

From pre-construction through project close-out, Specified Surfaces worked with the project team of two flooring contractors, the sub-floor preparation contractor and two General Contractors to maintain project schedule and overcome logistical challenges. Regular conference calls and several site meetings were employed during construction to ensure optimum production and rigorous maintenance of installation quality control throughout the fifteen month sub-floor preparation phase of the project, which was completed ahead of schedule.
